Cindy Carothers here. I help online women business owners collaborate to grow their business.
For me it’s a way of working together to achieve something that is of benefit to both of us AND our audiences.
It’s enabled me to get in front of groups of people faster than I could do by myself, and to grow my audience bigger than by working on my own.
Business is better with other people.
Working online with others is just more fun.
Only when I was ready....
While working online, it wasn’t until I was ready to let other people help me that I’ve been able to truly make progress.
Creating a business from behind your computer (or phone) sounds fantastic – and it is.
But I found it can also be lonely when working on things that my family doesn’t really understand. They are supportive, and are happy to celebrate my successes, but don’t truly comprehend what went into achieving that milestone.
When it’s just my brain doing the brainstorming, it’s hard to be sure the title or message or blog post I came up with is actually ‘catchy’, understandable and “the best”.
Plus, other people bring fresh ideas and perspectives that enrich my online experience – and that of my clients.
Collaborating helps me....
A happily married (36 years so far) wife and mom of five in a blended family and former caregiver to elderly parents, I’ve worked waitressed, managed a corporate division and co-owned a bakery café with my husband. (Not all at the same time.)
Now an empty nester, being an online business owner means I have only myself to be accountable to. Yet like most of us, I sometimes struggle with putting my dreams and business first.
I’ve found that I am more accountable to showing up (even for myself) when I work with other people.
I get better ideas when I brainstorm with other people.
I have more fun when I am working with other people.
Most importantly, I go farther and faster
in business when I work with others.
While you can practice a skill all by yourself, it take a group to actually play a game. Building a business is similar – you can work on it all by yourself, but it’s way more fun at a whole different level when you play with others.
On A Personal Note . . .
When I’m not working in or on my business, I enjoy reading, especially sci-fi and fantasy books, most genres of music, good food, doing jigsaw puzzles and Sudoku and being with my family.
My Approach . . .
Life – and business – are better with other people. I play well with others and like to support them.
My online journey will continue to involve collaboration as a business strategy – ie working with other people.
I invite you to come along on my journey as I personally expand my collaboration activities to grow my business and build a circle of supportive sisters who spur mutual growth, celebrate our successes, and commiserate on our learning experiences.
I’m not so far along my journey that I’ve forgotten the hurdles you need to overcome – the questions, the uncertainty, doubts and fears, the steps to take and some pitfalls to avoid.
